SpriteDX - Manual Compositing

Just writing down the steps to manually matte background for the sprite images.

Prerequisite:

  • Adobe Photoshop

Sample Sprite

Steps

  1. Open the frame

  2. Select > Subject

  3. Channels → [+] then Delete

  4. Duplicate the channel

  5. On the copy, Level

  6. Select the mask, and it should look roughly:

  7. Select Inverse, then Filter → Other → Minimum

  8. Then go back to the original mask in Channels tab, Select, then create a layer mask.

  9. If you add a background, composite should look fine.
